Committed to preserving the broad creative and social influence of American jazz culture both within and beyond its borders, the focus of the CJA in the area of international arts preservation is creating an important new channel of understanding for our shared past.

Beginning with the founding of its primary Los Angeles operations, and through its subsequent launch of closely aligned branch operations in the European capitals of London, Paris, and Berlin, the CJA is establishing the first cultural heritage network of its kind.

These three initial cities have been chosen both for their importance to the continuing advancement of jazz culture around the world, and for the unparalleled embrace of American jazz culture by the British, French, and German communities, throughout the twentieth-century.

Serving as a prominent new platform of national and international public engagement, the CJA’s combined preservation and educational activities are dedicated to providing an ongoing source of unified cultural heritage programming through each of its public centers.

In addition to the work of the center’s own researchers and staff, the CJA is expanding its arts preservation activities through collaborations with both public and private institutions from around the world.
